How do you spell tyred?

16/05/2013 19:37

I'm not sure I should be typing this right now. I'm doing my best to wear these guys out but it isn't working. At least they are not complaining yet. God has helped us to get much accomplished. We've put out about 2,500 John and Romans thus far. We also passed out Gospel flyers in Edinburgh for a couple hours last night. God has given  us some good witnessing opportunities.

I was surprised yesterday to see a man reading a Bible on the bus. He was just in front of me and it opened a conversation which lasted until he got off. He was saved 22 years ago and attends a church in Edinburgh. He doesn't live far from us and said that he would visit the church.

Tonight each of the young men shared their testimony in our mid week service. It was a great blessing. We had very good attendance and thank the Lord for a good night.

Please pray for our travels tomorrow. I'm going to take them on a day trip to the highlands.  It is 240 miles of very twisty narrow roads. Thanks for participating through prayer in their mission trip. God's shown us His goodness in answer to your prayers.

Putting out John and Romans

15/05/2013 11:32

We are already enjoying the time with the mission team. We had a two hour party last night stamping our church info. into the 3,000 copies. This morning we were able to put out about a 1,000 of them. The Lord gave one very good divine appointment with a young man from the Borders *Southern Scotland. Now we are getting ready to head into Edinburgh to see some sights and get some church history. The weather is good. It's been very unsettled the last two days but seems to be clear for the next 3 days. Thanks for praying for our ministry.

Getting ready for a short term team ministry

13/05/2013 12:07

The Lord gave us a good weekend. Saturday night I had a refreshing divine appointment with a 19 year old. I offered him a tract as he passed by me. He knows that there is a need in his life. Please pray that God will use His word to meet the needs in his heart.

Sunday was a blessing. We have another family who faithfully comes now to help us set up for our services. That gives us an opportunity to pray with all the kids before church. I preached  in the morning service on Numbers 14:1-11.  Israel had unnecessary, unnatural, unthankful and unintelligent sorrow.  And it was all because they were in unbelief and fear. It is sad that they were sorrowful instead of rejoicing at what God was going to do.

Last night we looked at Acts 5 and the story of the angel setting the preachers free.  It's one of those humorous stories in God's Word (like the story of Esther) which you hope you get to see when you get to heaven.

Tomorrow night a group of 5 young men arrives and will be with us through Sunday morning. Please pray for our ministry to them and for their ministry with us. Thanks for keeping up with what God is doing in Loanhead.

Growing a garden....

08/05/2013 11:52

We have enjoyed the nice weather which has allowed us to get the garden cleaned up. One of the things that we love about Scotland is the flowers. We have a garden full of different shrubs and several flower beds. It's fun to see them flower and green up. I am also being reminded that it is a lot of work to have a good garden and that good garden's are the result of effort. And without sowing seed I'd never expect to grow a nice lawn in newly cultivated areas.

2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

The Lord allowed me to get out again the last two morning and put out flyers. He also has given me several opportunities to share Christ. I'm amazed at the growing lack of knowledge of basic Bible truths. I am thankful for the chance God gave me today to share the story of "beginnings" with a college age person. They knew the names of the main characters but did not know the story. Please pray that God will give them a great interest to search the precious Book of His truth.

We are getting rain soon and we trust more sunshine. We know that the seed will grow and the garden will bear fruit.  We also know that God's Word will not return void. There will be a harvest and God's beauty will be seen as we diligently work in His garden. Thanks for getting out there with us in supporting what God is doing here.

Summer is coming?

06/05/2013 12:00

God has given us some beautiful weather the last two days. It is nice to be outside and feel the temperature as comfortable as if you were inside. I'm sure it is not quite as warm but the sun and the lack of wind give the illusion of heat. We are enjoying the weather.

God gave us a good Lord's day. I enjoyed preaching on the spies who came into the promised land. Lord willing, I will be doing a series of messages on this story. I think it would be an encouraging read if you have the time. I put my sermon notes on our church webpage. We enjoyed looking at Acts last night and considered the "great power' and "great grace" of the early church.

This morning I have been putting out flyers in Loanhead. I spoke to a man who I have been praying for. We enjoyed a good conversation a while back. He wanted to chat but had a meeting scheduled for this morning and couldn't talk. I had one other divine appointment for which I thank the Lord.  Please pray for God's power in our witnessing. Thanks for your help in our ministry.

Beautiful Music

03/05/2013 22:21

My family will soon be singing happy birthday to my wife, also known as Mommy in our home. God allowed us to get a fun birthday present and I thought I'd share a picture with you. I also thought I'd tell you a story. About a year after we were married, my wife began teaching piano lessons. She saved her money and used what she earned to buy a very nice digital piano. When it came time for us to prepare to go to Scotland, she sold the piano to finance my first survey trip over here.

When we got here some friends of ours provided a digital piano for us to use and it is a blessing. It is now our upstairs piano. (With 3 kids beginning piano and two more in the wings, it is a blessing to have more than one.) I wanted to get her an upright acoustic piano for her birthday and God has provided a lovely one in answer to prayer. For piano people out there, it is a 1905 Gors and Kallmann. It has beautiful sound and great touch. The owner was sad to part with it. It would not be a complete story if I didn't tell you that it was free to a good home.  All I had to do was hire professional movers to get it from his first floor flat. Isn't God good to give back what we give up for Him and to give us the desires of our heart?

Radio Interview

01/05/2013 22:49

The Lord gave me an unusual opportunity this evening. I was given the opportunity to be interviewed for a Christian radio segment that is broadcast on Sunday mornings in Midlothian, *region,  Scotland. The Lord gave us a good time as we chatted. It was encouraging to meet the believers that host this ministry and look forward to getting to know them better in the future. This particular program will be broadcast sometime this summer. Please pray that God will bless it and that the right listeners will tune in.

Ministry on Mars Hill

30/04/2013 21:54

I hope the Lord breaks my heart like Paul's after seeing the same crowd on their way to worship they know not what. Mark Hikin and I just returned from handing out flyers to folks on their way to a pagan festival.  The website for the fire festival says that they do their best to keep the atmosphere family friendly. It then says to keep in mind that there is nudity.  Please don't research this festival for that reason. I can't understand why it is allowed in a civilized "Christian" country.

We stood where people line up to enter and handed out about 1,000 flyers. I've never handed flyers out so quickly.  I've also never picked up so many flyers to turn around and hand them out again. We stood for Jesus tonight at Satan's doorstep. I had to keep meditating on "Greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world." Those who think Harry Potter is "fun" need to see what we saw tonight. Please pray for these dear souls who are blinded to truth to be set free by God's power.

I hope the above helps you to be burdened for God's power to be seen again in Scotland. Thanks for your prayers.

rain, sunshine, wind, rains, sunshine, sleet.....

29/04/2013 11:50

Sometimes we can get some pretty interesting and quickly changing weather. The past two days have been like that. I just ran three blocks back to the house because the weather was changing for the worse. :) God's been good to help get the flyers out. I got out four days last week and was able to get out this morning. JW's just swarmed the street I was on. I don't view that as an accident. They were either told that the Gospel was going out on that street or they were directed there by the enemy of righteousness. Please pray that God would stop Satan from snatching the seed away.

The Lord gave us a good day yesterday. Mark Hikin did a hymn history in SS. It was a big step for him and the Lord blessed it to our hearts as he shared the story of, "It is Well with My Soul."

We were also able to divide the children's SS yesterday and that went very well. Please pray for our church as we take little steps of growth.

Tonight we are going out to eat with a Christian couple from Texas. They are staying in Loanhead and found out about our ministry. It will be fun to get to know them and share with them what God is doing here.

Visa process over

26/04/2013 16:00

We have now gotten all of our documents back with approved residency for another three years. Praise the Lord that is finished. Now I have to turn around and send the kids passports off to the US consulate in London to be renewed. (Life is interesting sometimes.)  Lord willing, that will be a short process.

Thanks for praying the "red tape" side of ministry.
