A divine appointment

02/10/2013 11:38

The Lord gave me a divine appointment this morning as I was putting out flyers. I was praying about an opportunity to speak to someone after having no opportunities the first hour. The Lord soon gave me a great opportunity with a young man (24), M___________, who has not thought about eternity, creation, etc.  When I first arrived here, I didn't believe someone could never think about God. But now I am convinced that this generation can leave spiritual truths alone. He wasn't opposed to thinking about it, he just hasn't.

He was very interested to look at some verses about the Gospel and to see prophecy in Scripture. I showed him Psalm 22 and Romans 1. Please pray that he will read the John and Romans that I left with him.

I appreciate your prayers for divine appointments. The Lord gave me a good opportunity yesterday as I walked near my home. Please pray for M___________'s husband. She asked me to say a prayer for him. He is elderly and in failing health. I prayed for him as we walked together. M______________'s daughter attends a Baptist church. Thanks for praying for us.

(I was able to get my new flyer prepared yesterday. It is now being printed. I'll put copies of it below.)

The Lord's Day

29/09/2013 21:09

The Lord gave us a great day today. We had good attendance and there was a sweet spirit in our services. One family was still out with illness today. But, they were the last to get it. :(  Lord willing, we will be beyond the illness soon.

I preached a topical message this morning on, "Don't Quit."  Tonight we studied the beginning of the Gospel to the Gentiles from Acts 10.

J___________________ and his girlfriend were not in church today. His father is not doing well. I talked with him yesterday and he was at the hospital with his mum. So, please continue to pray for him.

Another specific prayer request, a young family who have begun attending our church must move house in the next couple of weeks. It would be ideal if they could stay in the area. I have told this mother that we are praying for God's provision. Please pray with us for this need. Thanks for taking these needs to the Lord.

Pictures from yesterday. :)

We arrived early and got the best spot to watch hole 15 a par 3.

Dunhill Links Golf Championship

28/09/2013 08:06

The Lord gave us a fun day yesterday at the Dunhill Links tournament. This is an annual event as we head to a beautiful golf course to watch some professional golf. I don't want to cause any envy in the hearts of those who enjoy watching golf. But, this event is free and it is held at Kingsbarns Golf Course, The Old Course - St. Andrews, and Carnoustie. We went to Kingsbarns yesterday to watch the more elite players. (Hopefully some friends of mine who went with me will be reminded to send me some pictures after reading this and I will put them on the website.)

Two of my boys went with me. They love it and they are magnets for hand outs from the pro's.  Benson's hat is almost covered with autographs. They also got autographed golf balls and tee's from the course. They were even given 12 pounds (money) in vouchers (coupons) for food.

The highlight of the day was an opportunity to share Christ with a friend of a professional. We spoke to G________________ for about 30 minutes as we watched Ooshuizen's, Els' and Schwartzel's groups play through. G_________________ had some great questions. Please pray that God will open his eyes to the Gospel.

God gave us a great day. For all of those kids out there, God is good.  When you serve Him, He throws in some wonderful fun experiences as well.

John is returning to the States today flying standby. Please pray that he can get the flights he needs to arrive home today.  Everything looked good for him to be able to do that. It was a blessing to have him with us. Thanks for praying.

Into the city.....

26/09/2013 15:09

The Lord gave us several great opportunities as we passed out flyers in Edinburgh. I told John I was taking him on a running tour. We handed out flyers, visited key religious history points, ran into gift shops, etc. But, we also had 3 great opportunities to share the Gospel.  It is a beautiful day and was perfect for what we were doing.

Please pray for the three young men to whom we spoke. Please pray also for a young man to whom I had spoken before. I handed him the flyer this morning and we both recognized one another. We didn't have an opportunity to talk but it was good to have that brief recognition and conversation in passing. Thanks for praying for our day.

A college friend.

25/09/2013 20:28

John Glass arrived here on Tuesday morning. He is a good friend from college days. As he said, "We went to school together in the 1990's."  I prefer, "the late 1990's." It's been fun to catch up with him. He works for an airline and is able to fly standby. The Lord helped him get his flights over here. Please pray for no difficulties getting back home this weekend.

We had planned to do outreach today. But, the weather did not cooperate. Instead we have painted the conservatory on our house. For those who don't know, a conservatory is like a sun room on the back of our home. It was a blessing to have his help getting that done.

Lord willing, we will be in Edinburgh tomorrow passing out flyers. Please pray for divine appointments and prepared hearts.

A fun Sunday.

22/09/2013 13:56

The Lord gave us an encouraging morning. Although the Hikins were unable to be there with their family, we still had 28 people present this morning. (I just talked with Mark and they are doing much better. Thanks for praying for them.)  There was also a sweet spirit in our services. Katie and Adele have split the children into two Sunday School classes. It's a blessing to have a ministry to the different age groups.

J_____________ and his girlfriend didn't make it. However, he texted me and let me know that his dad had just been admitted to hospital. So, Lord willing, they will be either with us on Thursday or Sunday. Please keep praying for them and for his father.

God's good. We have been reminded of His gracious plan for our ministry. We appreciate your prayers.

Getting Ready for Sunday.

21/09/2013 22:19

The Lord gave us a good Saturday. Benson was my door to door partner today. The kids are learning that whoever goes with me gets to buys some sweeties. So, they have some extra motivation to assist me. (I bet your pastor would consider that if you'd go along with him. :) We had a few good we chats.

Katie made a couple visits this afternoon and we all visited this evening. It was a very enjoyable day and we enjoyed finding many friends at home. Please pray that God's hand would be on our services tomorrow. I'm preaching on; the armour of God in SS, victory over depression AM, and The Door opening to the Gentiles in the PM.

Our family is doing better today. I was up for an hour and a half with Kay Lee during the night but she never got sick. The Hikins were ill during the night but Mark said they were a bit better this evening. We'd appreciate your continued prayers for the sickness. Thanks for praying. God's good!

Refreshed

20/09/2013 22:34

The Lord reminded me today how much He can be involved in our day. We had 4 divine appointments. One was in front of our home. Two others were in Edinburgh. Those two were with two different people/families for whom our church is praying. Another was as I was waiting to park my car. I ended up giving two men a lift down the road a few blocks.  S____________ said he would visit our church. Please pray for God's continued blessing and guidance. It is refreshing to see His hand at work.

Illness is going around again. We'd really appreciate your prayers for our church folks. The Hikins who were there on Thursday night all have a stomach bug. We have a few in our family with similar symptoms as well. This has already been a couple weeks of illness. Please pray for God to use this to strengthen our church and that if it please Him it would be short in duration. Thanks for praying.

Getting out and about.....

18/09/2013 11:52

I'm just happy to not be lost after the neighborhood I went through this morning. You'd have to see it to understand it. There are rows of houses that turn every which way and at times have no road and parking lot around them. I asked the postman how often he get's lost doing his route. He said he has been doing it for too long to get lost. I'm sure it was not an easy route to get use to when he started.

I had a couple short conversations with people and put out around 300 flyers. Please pray that God will water the seed. I watched the first young man that received one put it in the bin just down the road. It's a good reminder that it takes God's grace even when it is just words on a paper.

I received a text this morning from J________. He made plans with me for attending church and joining us for lunch. Please pray that we can be a blessing to he and his girlfriend.  Thanks for interceding for our ministry.

I've been encouraged today by the reminder of "God's still small voice" as he revealed himself to Elijah. It's easy to get focused on the "big" things and miss seeing God at work.
